Frapp Dawgster Description
Frapp Dawgster is a large soft-plastic lure with integrated weighting and ajointed internal wire syste. It has a full length of 180 mm and weighs 130 g. The lure is rigged with two strong BKK 6062 1X #3/0 treble hooks with a corrosion-resistant Black Nickel finish.
Dawgster belongs to the bulldog-style lure category — large soft pike lures with a bulky body, built-in weighting and an active curly tail.
The main way to fish Dawgster is with wide, powerful pulls. During this animation, the head section creates a strong pressure wave and heavy water displacement.
The large curly tail starts working easily on the retrieve and produces a visible wave-like, pulsing action.
The oversized fins on the body create a more natural baitfish silhouette and help the lure maintain its working body angle on the pause, while sinking.
The internal harness is multi-section and articulated. This construction significantly improves the durability of the lure and, in many situations, can also help improve hook-up efficiency.
Animation styles
Jerk — Retrieve — Pause
The classic Dawgster retrieve is built around a simple rhythm: a strong jerk, a pause, then repeat.
The pause can be short, but very often it is enough to trigger a pike strike as the lure stops. The break in movement and the slight change in trajectory add an extra trigger for predatory fish.
Dawgster is balanced so that it runs horizontally during the retrieve. On the fall, it tilts to approximately 45 degrees and sinks naturally.
Steady Retrieve
For quickly covering large areas of water, Dawgster can also be fished with a steady retrieve, where the main action is created by the reel. However, to make the presentation more effective, it is better to add variation: short pauses, subtle speed changes and controlled slowdowns.
Tackle Recommendations
Soft-plastic pike lures of this class are large, bulky and require powerful jerks and rod movements to animate them properly. For effective fishing, the tackle has to match the lure.
The rod is especially important. A stiff rod is recommended — one that does not collapse under hard jerks and has enough power in reserve.
That reserve of power is also important for setting the hook. Large pike often attack Dawgster aggressively, but a bulky soft-plastic lure has to be moved decisively at the moment of the hookset so that the strong hooks penetrate securely.
